liz kauffman
kauffman’s work explores the harmony and tension in color and form. intrigued by the linear tension found in architecture and nature, she chooses to further analyze the topic through a series of oil paintings, drawings and sculpture.

to find form, kauffman started with objects from wire and plaster based loosely on organic formations. the sensual, fragile figures are the foundation throughout her drawings and paintings. whimsical washes, yet bold lines and color, small intimate structures juxtaposed against large panels explore the idea of opposition throughout her work.

it is her intent to translate the depth and spatial elements in her sculpture onto a two-dimensional plane: to suggest these figures through unfolding, luminous divisions. though intrigued by the rigid geometric forms in architecture, she wants to explore the diffusion of light in softer curves and angles by translating ambient spaces, rich in line and color, to abstraction. this vocabulary remains the source of her energy to create vibrant, moving paintings.
