1000 Pricks. Wyndham

Madeline Wyndham (1835-1920) was one of the founders of the Royal School of Art Needlework in 1872 alongside Princess Louise, daughter of Queen Victoria. Leading artists were recruited as designers and teachers and the school was intended to ‘restore decorative needlework to the high place it once held among the decorative arts.’ Wyndham designed and made pieces that were sent to the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition of 1876, which is said to have launched art embroidery in the USA.
