1000 Pricks. Delany

Mary Delany (1700-1788) didn’t start in the field that made her name until she was widowed at the age of 71. A keen botanist, she started making collages of flowers out of coloured paper. These are remarkable for their accuracy, down to the finest filaments and stamens. The artist Sir Joshua Reynolds said he’d never seen such “perfection and outline… harmony and brilliance of colours.” She made about 1000 of these before her death at 88.
