Hays

From the press release:

To the curious eye Hays stands as an abstract painter. However, she sees her work not as a representation of a thought or place, but as a process. After years of collecting images, words and ideas, Hays gathers disparate recollections and forms them into a singular idea, image or title.

The paintings are her response to physical and psychological surroundings, a result of a slow meander or spelunk through bits of language, image and process. Despite the use of hard edges and tape as resist and compositional tools, Hays’ work reveals an emotional vulnerability rooted in the language of contemporary painting.
