AFTER IMAGE: Contemporary Artists & Photography
April 4 — May 29, 2015
at Art House Production Gallery
Art House Productions Gallery is pleased to present AFTER IMAGE: Contemporary Artists & Photography, featuring work by 25 artists. Photography now is more simple and accessible than ever. With our camera phones at the ready we’re all perpetual image makers and sharers. We’ve gone from the alchemical dimness of “View From the Window at Le Gras”
—the oldest surviving camera photograph, by Nicéphore Niépse, c. 1826
—to the vivid, relentless static of our social media feeds.
AFTER IMAGE is showcasing visual artists who are celebrating the photographic image, but are using it in ways that expand it as an expressive medium and are forcing it to conform to their idea of what a photograph can be.
OPENING RECEPTION: Saturday, April 4, from 3 to 6pm
LOCATION: Art House Productions Gallery, 136 Magnolia Avenue, Jersey City, NJ 07306
REGULAR HOURS: Sundays, noon to 3pm and by appointment

A Survey of Contemporary Painting
27 February – 10 April
@ The Mary Elizabeth Dee Shaw Gallery
Weber State University
curated by Matthew Choberka and Lydia Gravis
“In creating ‘Pure Paint for Now People,’ we endeavored to explore the paradoxes in the ways art can be represented,” said Choberka. “These artists’ concerns are wide-ranging, from the role of representation and materiality to the influence of technology; demonstrating how painting affirms its place in art, while respecting the need to adapt in certain circumstances.” reuters

a new exhibition by Jodi Hays
24 November 2014 — 11 January 2015
From the press release:
To the curious eye Hays stands as an abstract painter. However, she sees her work not as a representation of a thought or place, but as a process. After years of collecting images, words and ideas, Hays gathers disparate recollections and forms them into a singular idea, image or title.
The paintings are her response to physical and psychological surroundings, a result of a slow meander or spelunk through bits of language, image and process. Despite the use of hard edges and tape as resist and compositional tools, Hays’ work reveals an emotional vulnerability rooted in the language of contemporary painting.
