Oil on canvas, c.1880 – 1890
Jane Day c.1844 – 1928
As with the ‘Head and Shoulders’ painting, this work was bought by public subscription and the Museum, in this case for £10.00.
The sitter is not identified, though there is a comparison ‘Blue Coat Boy’ portrait in the Museum collection. The child holds a daffodil, which signifies ‘regard’ or ‘chivalry’ in the language of flowers.
